For Leonard Cohen Lovers
Here's a link to the complete London Concert. I adore Leonard Cohen so I've watched this twice now.
I don't want to write about the ridiculous panic over the swine flu, I find it just a bit over the top how the media are handling this thing. I do have a supply of Tamiflu on hand though, just in case. I had occasion to go to two different hospitals this week and there seem to be no special precautions in place other than the usual hand sanitizers which I tend to use out of habit anyway. I also wash my hands often.
The first hospital visit was for an annual checkup on my left hip replacement. At the same time they did x-rays for the right hip and both knees. Then I saw the ortho surgeon who asked me did I want the bad news or the really bad news. Bad news is that both knees are going fast and really bad news is the right hip will need replacement soon. Meanwhile to buy me a little extra time I'm having a cortisone shot in the hip joint Monday. I'm told it may or may not work and it's going to hurt.
My second hospital visit (different hospital), they did have someone sitting at the front door asking had I been to Mexico recently. I shook my head no, sanitized my hands and was on my way. More x-rays this time on my foot. The good news is that the surgeon thinks he can fix my foot. He will break the bone where it healed badly, insert a steel plate and also fix my two hammertoes at the same time. Bad news, six weeks in a cast, good news, he can do it June 17th which gives me enough time to heal before heading off to Greece in September. Bad news, not much cottaging going to happen this summer and I still have all that unglazed pottery to be finished, grrr. Guess a girl can't have it all so overall, I'm happy, kind of...

I can't believe we are having surgery at the same time. Yours on June 17th, mine on the 18th. Originally scheduled for May 12th but I had to change it.I'm having another one on my back for the arthritis. Not like the last surgery with Fusions. this one is a decompressive laminectomy to clean things up a little higher up my spine. Hopefully he does not have to remove any discs and put cages in there with this one.
I have had the cortisone shots in my hips and the shots did not hurt. Synvisc in my knees before my replacement hurt like heck but the hip cortisone ones did not. I do get some relief with those cortisone shots, but ultimately it just buys some time is all.
Good luck with everything you have coming up. Will be thinking about you.
Thanks Cathy, I feel better now. They do freeze it before giving the needle I'm told. It was a girlfriend who told me it hurts but I'm beginning to think everyone has a different level of pain tolerance. Mine's pretty high.
Pain is a relative thing isn't it? It may hurt, but I'm betting your tolerance to pain is pretty high. I'm so used to having back pain that I rarely notice when I don't. I do notice when it's worse though. The shot my be painful, but maybe you'll get through it because you always have it and this is just a different type of discomfort. Good luck.
You have such a full surgical dance card. Did you get your bedroom moved downstairs yet? That may be a good pre op activity for your post op plan of care. ;-)
No Rudee, I've gone back to sleeping upstairs now that my sweetie is back. I will work on it though for when I get my foot done. I've got stuff half upstairs and half downstairs and I still have to clear out my Mom's stuff. I'm busy knitting between doctors appointments, that's my story, LOL...
Rositta you certainly have some serious problems there. But I hope all will be fixed eventually.
I love Leonard Cohen too, although he cannot sing worth a darn but he certainly has written some great songs and he has somehow become a great performer.
Jmb, his voice has gotten more gravely as he ages although your right, it was never the best. He brings me back to my Montreal coffee house days. He'd sit on a stool surrounded by us hippies in a smoke filled room, it was wonderful.
