Should Canada Honor Kyoto?

Not in my humble opinion, but of course I'm not a scientist. I am not disputing that there is something going on with the environment, but as long as countries such as India and China are not forced to live up to the agreements, we are pretty much doomed.

Read this story, it tells of how China is poisoning the planet. How do we get them to stop doing that? I have no idea, but as long as they continue producing stuff that we buy they will continue to do it.

Here's another story on the same subject, coal fired plants. This story includes India and United States in the mix.

We need to clean up the environment but I absolutely do not trust politicians, any of them to do it. The only thing Kyoto would do for Canada is ruin our economy, send our money to countries like Russia, China and India to buy credits from them, and continue our merry way. Is this a solution?...I think not.

I totally agree, one reason why I moved out of California...

But I don't know how to make things work... And staying away from products, it's hard when the cost of living is so high...

At any rate, I'm very happy you loved my photo... hehe. You are too funny!

Funny, In today's Globe and Mail, has the same opinion in their editorial as I do, that we cannot possibly live up to Kyoto without bankrupting Canada and then some... They are saying in fact that Dion is disingenious for insisting that we honor our committment...ciao

Rositta;
I respectfully disagree. Although I do agree that other nations need to pull up their bootstraps on the issue as much as we do. The fact remains that North Americans are huge contributors to emissions. To sit back and not make drastic cuts is morally reprehensible. This argument of doing nothing until others do something reminds me of childhood brawls when fingers are pointed in all directions and no one will back down until the biggest bully does. I prefer to go with Canada serving as an example; and Kyoto will not ruin our economy. It can actually strengthen it. But that is another discussion...
There are plenty of nations wondering how THEY can get US to stop what WE are doing. So let's stop.

Those countries that are wondering should stop buying our gas and oil. We are held responsible for "60 per cent of all emissions from exported products such as natural gas", according the The Globe and Mail. We must do something, you are right, but what? Buying credits from "developing nations" is not the solution. I still believe that if we moved away from being a heavy consumer society we would be better off. Let's all stop buying stuff for a year, that should get the factories to slow down production which in turn will reduce useage of electricity, which is generated by coal. Sounds easy right? So let's get to it instead of just blaming governments.

Oh I just read a great article from switzerland at swissinfo. They are really pushing for changes including taking the train to go skiing, no car at all... Using door to door services instead..

Are you watching super bowl? I want to see the US ads, too bad we don't have that...

Nope, no super bowl for me, not into football. I think the ads will be on utube, that's what I heard...Iwill watch the half time show though, that's usually fun. If you have a link to the swiss article, i'd appreciate it. Door to door service sounds lovely, I can't get by without a car, I can't walk far, can't do stairs plus I need to take my Mom out to doctors and stuff and she can barely walk around the house..enjoy the super bowl..ciao
