Ontario's Smoking By-Law Double Standard
When the new tough no smoking by-law came into effect last year a lot of restaurants and bars that had spend upwards of $200,000 to build smoking rooms were told, tough luck, no go.
At that time the largest complainers were the casinos and bingo halls, where patrons are higher smokers than elsewhere. Now, all of a sudden today, the Ontario Government has decided in their wisdom (greed) that they will allow smoking at government owned casinos. You figure out why, but private business is "fuming".
McGuinty's government very quietly amended the by-law because business is down thirty percent this year. Hypocrisy at it's best and of course McGuinty is touring India so unavailable for comment.

The real reason why they are fuming is because the Native casino's still allow smoking and so the government has lost out to them...
Private business in Ontario were given the green light to install smoking rooms at huge cost. Then the law changed and they spent huge amounts of money to uninstall them. The government owned casinos are loosing big bucks especialy in Niagara and Windsor where American go. So they backtracked on that one. The native issue is different, if they wanted to ban smoking there they would have a problem. The government is afraid of any native issues as evidenced by the Caledonia standoff which has been going on for months now without solution.
No, this is stricly a money issue with McGuinty nothing more, nothing less... sorry for rambling...ciao
I smoke, but I do understand the frustration of people who don't. But my answer has always been, 'go somewhere else!'
Thanks for stopping by my blog!!!
I smoke a little too, it's not the law that bothers me at all, it's the inconsistancy of government when money is at stake. Hyprocisy, thy name is McGuinty (Ontario's Government).
