The Great Ice Storm Of 1998

Tomorrow is the 10Th anniversary of the worst ice storm in recent memory. It encompassed parts of eastern Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Canada and parts of Maine and New York State.

We watched in horror from the safety of our home the television reports showing hydro towers collapsing like matchsticks. There were around 30 deaths attributed to the storm and some areas were without power for weeks.

I am thinking about this storm today because conditions are right for another one. Unusually mild temperatures across most of Canada, lots of rain and a cold front moving in. Could it happen again, sure, but I sure hope it won't...

I live in fear that this will be repeated but at least I am prepared if we are ever caught in one. One think that I have now that I didn't before are portable crates for all my dogs which I keep in the car. Evacuation shelters will not take pets if they aren't in crates!

Today I thought we might have flooding, the snow was melting so fast!

I didn't know that about dogs. We are thinking of getting a generator actually, one never knows what will be. It's melting big time here too...ciao

My basement had two inches of water in it last week. . .none today, I suppose it is because the sump pump is working.

Get a generator! Or at least a few Coleman things.

I have Coleman heaters, stoves and lanterns. Honestly, when we have power outages they come in so handy. We have a woodstove as well, but it never hurts to be prepared.

I took a weather pixie from you and added it to my blog. . . what a great idea.

Thanks Rositta!

No problem, we all seem to borrow from one another don't we, too bad it doesn't do Celcius and Fahrenheit together though...

Oh I hope we have no floods or lose power. I notice as well very warm weather here in Quebec. The snow is melted on the deck and I can finally see my car.
A generator is an excellent idea.
