Only In Canada, Eh...
Presented myself to an ER of a large metropolitan hospital one rainy night last week with symptoms of retinal detachment around 8:30 pm.
Was triaged by 9, check... made it into the actual ER by about 9:30, check, check... was given a reading test by about ten or so, check, check, check...
Watched the ER doc constantly shuffle my chart to the back of the list, listened as I was being discussed as the "eye patient" and watched as other people with lesser symptoms were treated and sent home.
Left the ER in disgust with no resolution by about 12:30 am, checkity check check...

I hope you've seen an opth. doc since then. Incidentally, it would be no different here in terms of wait to see a specialist for something like this. It's not only in Canada.
But...that's awful! How about some urgency! What's the matter with some people?
My opthamologist saw me today and it's not a retinal detachment. He explained about vitreous gel behind the retina and told me that because I'd had surgery on that eye in March I did the right thing going to hospital. He said they were negligent not to check that immediately. As it turns out the reason I'm half blind (20/200) is because the cataract grew very quickly after the retinal surgery and has to come out soonest.
Oh I'm glad you saw your optician, you must have been really worried.
What a waste of time to be in the ER waiting for Godot...
Hi DevilMood, I admit to being a bit spaced out for sure. You know I love knitting and it's been difficult to do that recently. Cataract surgery will happen in January on both eye. He says I will be very happy afterward.
i'm sorry to hear about the visit. it sounds as though your doc will be able to help you, however. that's a good thing! let us know how you're doing.
Half blind but happy Chrysalis, that's how it is. Imagine the "old" days when they couldn't do anything about cataracts. How lucky we are to live in these times...
