Finally - The Wait Is Over

Monday morning after waiting three months, I will have the cataract in my left eye removed. It has been a long wait fraught with second guessing and second opinions. I was told that the first eye is probably not going to get much better which depresses me. I don't have a single pair of reading glasses that works for that eye. Nevertheless the second eye has to be done. It is my hope that by the time I go for my hip replacement the doc will have set me up with some type of reading glasses. They don't like to prescribe them until at least six weeks post surgery but I don't have the luxury of time on my side. I need to be able to see when I'm in hospital.

Meanwhile, some pictures in my garden that make me smile. The Japanese Maple survived the winter brilliantly...

I'm not too crazy about bleeding hearts but I have one anyway...

This is only a small patch of raspberries...there are a few more scattered around the garden. It will be a bumper crop. These bushes yield twice a year, once in July and again in September. Of course I'm never here for the September crop but the woman that takes care of our garden sure loves them...

We were not planning on doing a vegetable garden this year. We had originally planned on going to Greece in July and leaving the garden dormant for a year. Things change, best laid plans and all that, with the hip replacement in May I will not be traveling to Greece before September. So, there will be a garden...

Our friend Pasquale, contributed the tomatoes. The seeds for everything will go in before the end of the month...

And last but not least, I have been doing some knitting. I have 5 projects on the go right now. Two pairs of socks, one blanket and two sweaters but when I got the pattern for this wonderful shrug I simply put everything else away and started knitting. After today though I suspect all projects will be on hold for a while. That will probably include blogging and even reading which really sucks... As my friend in Germany said to me, "what's the alternative".

The Cardinals Are Back

It's not the best picture of the Northern Cardinal but it's pretty high up. The song of this bird is just wonderful and I could listen to it for hours. Sadly he hangs around only long enough to call his mate, then their off. He will come back though, he likes our tree. He's prettier than the female, unfair that don't you think.

Spring is definitely in the air...

How Hot Was It Yesterday?

It was so hot that the squirrel's didn't even want to play. Normally they run around the yard chasing each other but not yesterday. This guy really didn't want to play. It was 35C yesterday with humidity it felt like 40C and it was a record breaker.



We're heading north to the cabin to decompress a little. I can't wait to get into the lake and cool off. No DSL up there so no blogging until next week, maybe Tuesday. I wish everyone a lovely weekend.

Jam Or Pie - That Is The Question?

I want to be really really greedy, and make a raspberry pie for immediate gratification, but my generous side is pushing me to make raspberry jam to give away as Christmas presents.


Which side of me will win?...sigh

There is also a bumper crop of red currants and gooseberries and that also makes a good jam. I guess I'll decide in the next couple of days after one more good harvest.

The Taliban Is Coming To Get Us- Do I Care?

Nope, not really. I heard on the news just a little while ago that the Taliban is training suicide bombers to come to Canada, Britain, U.S and Germany.

The City of Toronto brass orders the "support the troops" ribbons to be removed from all firetrucks. Now that one bothers me a lot more than the Taliban coming to get us. Seems some councillors have complained saying it supports the war in Afghanistan. Interestingly the name of the councillor who started this is Janet Davis, who is my councillor. I'll have to send her an email and ask if it's true.

Meanwhile I have been battling a two day migraine and so far the migraine is winning. I'm pretty much down for the count. It's a combination of the big storm and hormones which always makes it worse.

Meanwhile, my flowers are blooming and the garden has a wonderful smell these days.
These roses smell divine.


Pretty much anywhere you walk in our little yard you can smell the lavender. I've thought of drying it but really don't have the energy.

How Does My Garden Grow

This rose was brought by a friend last week in memory of my Mom. It bloomed this weekend.



I'll be darned if I remember what this is, but it is georgeous isn't it.



The Rhododendrons are blooming this spring. Too bad the blooms don't last very long.



Another spring flower, I have too many bearded irises, some will have to go. In the background is the vegetable garden.




And last but not least, my favourite, the Peony is putting on quite a show for me and deserves two photos.
